We know your family is busy. Often times, you find each member pulled in multiple directions, especially as activities culminate right before the holidays. Between concerts, recitals, sports activities, final term tests, parties, shopping and preparing, who has time to rest? But you know what? Your child needs it--especially during this time. Prioritizing will help you and your family beat the holiday blues that can overwhelm some people. Whether your child needs some extra help in school or is at the top of the class and need more motivation, a time of rest is needed.
Here are a few tips to help you unwind during this busy time.
1) Get to bed on time during the break. A few late nights, isn't a big deal but if you totally blow off bedtime, you'll regret trying to get back into the normal routine.
2) Limit screen time. I know, I know. It's hard. Smart phones, tablets, laptops, game consoles, and tvs do not make it easy. Try to stick to 1 hour or less (per day) and then pull out board games, books, puzzles, building/engineering games and art supplies to stimulate creativity.
3) Listen to audiobooks. I can't emphasize enough how relaxing this is. Combined with coloring or puzzle solving, you have a real relaxing winner.
4) Most importantly, focus on the reason your family celebrates this time of year. Meditate on the Savior. Celebrate the miracle of the lasting oil. Light the lights. Hug your family. Know that your are blessed to have made it to another holiday season.
