Student Success: Discipline Begins with Identifying What Needs to Change

Sometimes coming to a place where we recognize that what we have been doing isn’t working is hard. This reality can be doubly hard for young students who may not have the emotional maturity to recognize that it’s okay to make mistakes. The key is recognizing that every human has weakness, yet being determined not to continue making the same choices that are not working.

Making those changes will take humility, time, patience and fortitude. It’s a great way to help your child develop the character traits she will need as they grow into adulthood. Below are a few questions to help your family identify what needs to change.

  1. When I make ___________ choice, am I getting the good results I would expect?

  2. When I do _____________ is it in a timely and productive manner?

  3. When I _____________, what is my attitude? Am I working with excellence?

  4. If I consistently do ___________ can I see positive results?
